'OUT' PORTRAITS

'Tarred with the Same Brush' (exhibited at Freedom Festival 2024), centers the voices and stories of those that have experienced prison, through a series of textiles portraits and snippets of conversation. It rejects 'goodies and baddies' and explores: How did we get here? Does prison work? What needs to change? What & who helped us through rough times? Why do we focus on the crimes of the powerless and not the powerful? Can we do better then to punish and exclude our most vulnerable? It's a call for inclusion and connection; to see people as whole and complex people, and not as the crime they commited.
